The parent child link is the most crucial thing in the mental condition of the child. The damaging effects of prison spreads to the child and repeats a cycle http://healing178.vox.com/l...
Also these children are often the victims of prior abuse and end up needing medication for depression http://suiciderateup.wordpr...

Re: When a Parent is in Prison

Clearly the children are NOT alright. We work with these kids and the amount of abuse is pathetic. There is now 12 year olds on strong antidepressants. Some children as young as 10 are on anxiety medications and deep depression medication. As on 10 year old said" Im lifes a F**K**G mess" How does that happen to a 10 year old. We try to wean them off these strong medications http://spirithappy.wordpres...
The children have a big problem and the problem unfortunately is their parents. This may be the worst generation of parents in the 200 plus years of the USA

Re: When a Parent is in Prison

This powerful and timely. The state of our youth is in deep danger. The record number of teens cutting and self harming is incredible. It was reported that 1 in 8 girls harm themselves and find this ok. The youth are depressed and deeply stressed and this growing. 5 million under 18 are clinical in deep depression. What is going on?..PARENTS are a big part of this ..parents in prison caused children to be set up for failure..God bless these poor children

Re: When a Parent is in Prison

Yes it's unfortunate, but what is the alternative? I don't believe justice should consider if the person whom commited a crime has a child. If they are in jail it's probably for a good reason, and having a child should not deter justice from being served. Blame the parents.

Re: When a Parent is in Prison

Thank you for the lovely feedback Lisa.

Re: When a Parent is in Prison

Standing reading breathing
the words of these old young people,
each one more than aware
of the dangers challenges losses hurts disappointments of the world
then a child should be at the ages
of hopscotch, senior proms, father-daughter dances, bedtime stories.
I whisper a prayer a hope a long distance butterfly kiss
to each tear-stained cheek, each deep pool of sorrow behind each eye.
I marvel at their collective strength that stands as straight as these
storyboards announcing their private pains: I live, I survive, I go on

Thank you for bringing this important exhibit to our campus.
