Carpinteria to Santa Barbara traffic was a little heavier than normal, but the freeway is open. San Ysidro exit is closed and people are slowing down to read the sign at Santa Claus Ln. in Carpinteria. The smoke was very heavy through the Milpas area.

We've been getting calls in the library about the campus status. We are open for business. Classes are in session.

I was unpleasantly surprised at the lack of emergency lighting in the Humanities Building. Two bright lights did come on in the language lab, but in general the hallway and classrooms were in total darkness. Students spilled out into the corridors using their cell phones as flashlights. Security was good, however, patrolling the walkways with bright lights.

It took me and my colleague half an hour to exit the campus but that was understandable, considering the number of vehicles trying to leave all at once.

Adam Green, who lives on Mountain Drive and probably lost his home, called this morning to suggest setting up a website for Staff and Faculty effected by the Tea Fire. The website would be a single point of contact for those who lost their homes and in need of somewhere to live and other necessities. Those with rentals available (or spare rooms), could post what they have on this website and those of us who just want to help would have a forum to see what is needed

I have camping gear, tents, extra pans, etc. that I could loan out, or if someone wanted, pitch in my backyard. Terri Cook

Also, if anyone knows which SBCC faculty and staff were in harms way and or suffered loss, please post it.
